The Employee by joshua schwebel
About this project

publication request

Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com> To: Bruce Barber <██████████████████ >

dear Bruce,
I hope this email finds you well, and that things are returning to normal in Atlantic Canada following the hurricane.
I am currently in the process of archiving outcomes of The Employee project. I am writing to ask your permission to reproduce the emails we exchanged about the project, which I hope to include in the project documentation. This material will be published online.
The reason for this request is that the project as a whole became about making overwork and burnout within the arts visible. These issues are not clearly articulated in single events, but accumulate over small increments.
My intention is to publish the archive of the project as completely as possible, as a way to show the quantity of work involved in the project, and also the intersection of work with personal life, which was more prevalent  than ever during the pandemic.
Our conversation comprises a tiny fragment of this mountain of correspondence.
I have attached the exact documents I wish to reproduce to this email. I do not intend to publish anything other than what is included below. Please read these over and let me know if you would consent to allow me to use these documents. If you do not consent, or want anything else removed, please let me know as well. I want to respect your wishes. I would greatly appreciate it if I could hear back from you by next week, and will keep in touch to let you know when the project is published.
warm wishes,
Joshua Schwebel

Dear Joshua
I’m presently in Venice but will have a quick read of the documents and send you my consent, which I’m sure will be forthcoming, as I very much respect your work as an artiste provocateur.
Cheers
Bruce
