Re: checking in

Hey Michelle,
I just wanted to check in, to see if your mom’s surgery is still on.
I have to go spend the night at a miserable sleep clinic tonight, and I resent it all so much!
I find the German approach to medicine so divorced from care. Anyways, just wanted to see how things are going.
I would love to call and complain about this process to you, if you have any time or interest in a phone-rage soon.

Hugs

Hey Josh,
We were holding our breath for an option today but moms still at home and not at the hospital pepping for surgery so morale is low and I’m pretty sure the holidays will be tense.

Sleep clinics are weird. Are you testing for something specific or just general trouble sleeping?  I’ve never been but I find the concept of testing your sleep in such an uncomfortable scenario odd, like of course a bad sleeper will sleep bad in this kind of clinical context. Despite that I hope the process helps.

Would love to chat this week. I’ll admit that I have not moved forward but no reason not to still meet up to chat, complain whatever. Also got news that stands in opposition to my current bitter position. Curious to hear your thoughts on it. X

Damn, I’m so sorry to hear that.
Re the sleep clinic. It was super duper weird. I slept really badly, but thankfully they got enough data. I had a really nice nurse who was really sympathetic to my concerns, and that helped my mood, because I had a very unproductive conversation during my consultation where they were very inflexible about how they do things - ie, show up at 8pm, they wake you up at 5am, you sleep in a doctor’s office that is entirely devoid of any comfort, etc. I kept saying I am very sensitive and will be too uncomfortable to sleep under these conditions, it won’t work for me. And they kept making me feel like I was being a princess. And saying, we will give you a sleeping pill, to which I said that’s not good science if you want to measure how I sleep, why would you alter those conditions!
Anyways, it’s ultimately all about money and how the insurance companies work (of course). So they needed the data to prove to the insurance company that I stop breathing in my sleep, otherwise I would have to pay for it all privately.
So they got enough data now to hook me up with a kind of night mouth guard that will hopefully reduce my snoring. I stop breathing in my sleep sometimes (actually with increasing frequency, which is really disturbing), but I also cannot imagine that I would be able to sleep with an airhose on my face. So the nurse’s recommendation of a mouth guard is really important.
I would be very happy to chat soon and to hear your news!
I hate christmas very much and would love to talk then, but I know that you will be familying. I would be able to catch up tomorrow, friday, or next week. Basically throw out a time when it works for you, and I will probably be able to make it work.
x

P.S. today around 11am your time would also be ideal for a meeting, but only if that level of spontaneity works for you.
