dear Michael,
Hope all is good.
I just wanted to send you some updates on the project.
Using the list that we generated, and with a few additional ideas, I did some more directed outreach targeted at cultural institutions in Southern Ontario.
Shaking those trees resulting in a couple viable candidates, who we interviewed on Monday. Both are able to work on-site in London, and of the two I think we're close to making our final decision, which is a huge relief.
As well, regarding the publication, I wanted to ask your opinion on someone else I would like to invite to write for the publication. So far Clive Robertson has agreed, which is terrific. I want to also invite Mitchell Cumming. Mitchell is a conceptual artist working in Australia. He also runs an artist-run centre there. I worked with him a few years ago and it was a positive experience. I am interested in inviting him to write because I read his recently finished dissertation, wherein he wrote about artistic practices of support structures, and recessional aesthetics (recession meaning in the background). It was lucidly written, and described how he sees his work in the artist-run centre as a part of his own artistic practice, which, as a part of his artistic practice, must be dedicated to supporting the artists shown, rather than taking centre stage. I think that this is an interesting perspective to bring to the project (I attached the thesis below if you feel like reading it). He has also initiated a recent project that involved applying for a scholarship with the explicit intention, should he win, to recirculate the funds. I will tag you in the post on instagram so you can read it directly.
I think Mitchell would be a great writer for this publication, I hope you agree.
I would like to invite one final writer, ███████ ███████ ███ ██ ███ █ █████ ████. I can't think of who it might be, but if you have any ideas, I am quite open to your suggestions.
Warm greetings also to Jessica,
hugs,
Josh

Re: updates
Glad it’s moving up.

I saw the Cummings instagram thing and was obvs. intrigued. Even before you got to the “I attached his thesis” I was going to ask if you had a copy.

One option for writer is ██████ ███████ ███ ███████ █████ ███ ████ ████████████ ███ ███ ████ ███ ██████ ████ ████ ███████ ███ ███ ███████ ████████ ██ ███████████████ ███ ████ ████████ ███ ████ ██ ████████ ████ ███ ███ ██████ █ ████ ██ ███ ████ █ ███████ ███████ ████ ██ █████ █████████████████ █████ █████████ ██████ ██ █████ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███ ███████ ██ ██ █████████ ██████ I have asked someone who might have an idea.

dear Michael,
Thanks for the suggestion and feedback re; Cumming and ███████ ██████ █████ ██ ██ ██ ███████████ ███████ █████ ███ ██████████ ██ ███████
I am going to think about it more and try to think of a few more options.
In terms of the hiring process.
We have successfully found and secured an employee.
We had two semi-viable candidates. The first was █ ███ ███████ ████ ██████████ ███████ █ █████ ████████ █████ ██ ███████ █████ ██ █████ ███ ███ ███ ███████████ ██ ███ █████████ ███ ██████ █████████ ███ ██████ █ █████ ██ ████████ ██ ████████ ███ ███████ ██████ ███ ████████ ████████████ ███ ████ ██████ ██ ███████████ ████████ ████████████ ██████ ██████ ██ █ ███ ██ ███████
Our other choice was ██████████ ████ ██████ ███ █████ ██ ███ ██████████ ███ █████ █████████ ███████ ███████ ████ ███████ █████ ███ █████ ██ ███████ █████ ███ █████ ███ ██████████ ██ ██████ ███ █ ██████████ ███████████ █ ████ ████ ███ ████████████ ███ █████████ ███████ ████ █████ █████████ ███ ██████ ██ ██████ ████ ███ ███████ ██████ ███ ███████ ███ ██████
So, after a long conversation we chose the second candidate, █████ ███████. I recognize that this is a risk and will involve ████ ██████████ ████ ██ █████ ███, but I feel ████ ██████████ ██ ███████ ████ ███ ███ ██████ ███ ███ ████████████████ ███████████ ███████████ ███ ████ ██ ███ ████████
But we shall see...

Re: updates
Good hiring choice IMO.

A few other options for additional writers.

We could see if ████████ ███████ would be willing to write on this. She is in the midst/final stages of █ ███████ ████████ ███ ███ ███ ███████ ██ ███████ ████████, though, so she may not be able to speak freely about feelings regarding fundraising and its problematic. A second option is ██ ████ █████████ ██. An American focus, so may not be completely fit, but certainly coming from a place of deep consideration of the sector.

Hi Michael,
Glad you agree with the hire decision. Time will tell how it turns out...

For writers, these are great tips. Both ████████ ███████ and ██ ██ sound like excellent options, and there are reasons for both. Being familiar with ████ ████, I think he could speak more widely to ███ █████████████████████ █████████ ██ ███████████ ██ ██████████████ ██████████, but I am uncertain of how ██ █████ ██████ ████ ███ ███████ ██ ██ ███████. ██ █ ████████ ████████ ████████ could speak to the project in the ████████ ███████ ███ ██ ██ ████████ █ ███████ ████ ███ ██ ███ ████████ ████████ ███ ██ ███ ███ █████ █ █████ ███ █████ ██ ██ ██████ ██ ███ ████

A couple other long shots that I wanted to pitch for your thoughts are █████ ██████████ ███ ███ ███ ███████████████ ████████████ ███ ██ ███████ ██████ ███ ██████ ██ ████ ███ █████ ██ ██████ ███████████ ███ █████ █████████ ████████ ████ █████ ██ ███ █████ ███ █ █████ ████ ██ ███ ███████ ████ █████ ██ █████████████

Hi, Josh,

I think you’re probably right about ███
I have a tenuous connection with ██████ ██ ████ ██ ███ ████ ████████ ██████████ ████████ ██ ███████ ██████ ██████ ███ ████ █ ██████ █████ ████████████ █████████ █ ████ ███ ████ ███ ██████ ███████ ██ ████ █████ ██ ███ ████ ███ ██████████ █ ██ ██████████ ████ ██████ █████ ████████ ███ ██ █████ █████ ███ ████ ████████ ██ █████ ███

Do you want me to suss out ████████?

M

Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com>

Hi Michael,
Sorry for the late reply, I was in the country over the last few days with limited internet access.
I think it would be great if you could write to ████████. I will write to █████ and see what her response is. It’s worth a shot, and █ ████ ███████ ████ ████, thanks for the tip. Let’s see what they say...
I was thinking the texts should be around 2500 words, and can offer $600 CAD per author. Do you think that’s an acceptable length / fee?

Dear Michael,
I hope you are well enough...
I have been about the same.
I have not sent invitations to anyone to write yet. Have you reached out to ████████ ███████? Aside from Mitchell I wasn't feeling entirely secure about the people we had to choose from.
Today I realized that █████████ ██████████ would be a better fit, certainly better than the american academics I had suggested. What do you think?

Re: updates

Hi, Josh,

Just got back from a week away.

I haven’t talked to ████████ yet .... Will do that this week, though. Apologies for that.

I think that █████ may be good nevertheless, for ███ ██████████ ███████████████ ███ █ ████████ ████ ███ ███████████ ████ ███ ████████ ██ █████████ █████ █ ██████ ██ █████ ██ ██████ ████ ██ █████ ███████ ██ █████ █████ ███ █ ███████ ██ ██████ ███████████ ███ ███ ███████ ███ ██ ███████ ████████ ████████ █████████████████████████████████) so has an understanding of the difficulties of the scene, particularly for a new organisation that doesn’t fit the ‘rules’. She comes originally from ███ ███████ so can bring an international perspective to it?
