Dear eunice,
My sincere thanks for your thoughtful reply and willingness to discuss contributing to our publication. The complex matrix around payment, labour, funding, and advocacy are indeed a corner stone of our project.
Both Josh and I have the utmost respect for the conditions of remuneration you have outlined and your strong articulation of their importance. In discussing your email together, Josh and I have been grateful for the opportunity to reflect on the conditions we are setting within a project that is intended as a reflection upon how conditions are set in the cultural sector.
We are invested in coming to an agreement that will hopefully allow you to contribute under terms that align with your understanding of the publication. In that regard, for some further context, we wanted to share that, although we are working with Art Met for distribution, the book is entirely self-funded through a CCA grant. Unfortunately, this means that we are unable to raise the writer’s fees, but we can offer to shift the initially proposed conditions of word-count and timeline.
The eight contributions in the book range from 2000 to 7000 words, so, while an 800 words text could seem out of place, we could propose a reduced word count of 1500 words. Additionally, we would be happy to understand better from you what an appropriate timeline would be for a contribution of 1500 words.
Thank you again, eunice. I really appreciate the opportunity to talk this through with you in the hopes of an amicable agreement.
Warmly,
Lauren
