Hi J,

Here is a stab at the requested clarification. Change in blue.

Let me know what you think.

As the gallery’s sole staff member, Carlesimo is compensated for 30 hours of work per week to manage administrative, curatorial, financial, educational, promotional, technical, and maintenance tasks. In a conversation that took place when FCG was changing locations and the gallery was occupying two sites for several month, Carlesimo bluntly acknowledged that to accomplish all of this, she worked significantly more than 30 hours a week: “If I factor in all the hours I work, I am making way below minimum wage.” This juxtaposition of an overextended staff with a historical legacy recognizing artistic labour sparked my idea for The Employee.

Also, can you confirm the date that this conversation took place?

Lauren Wetmore <████████████████████████████████ > To: Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com>

Disregard! I got the details from your essay.

Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com>

Hi Lauren, this works for me. I am pretty sure that the dates are already noted in the footnotes.

Haha! Too slow :)

Lauren Wetmore <████████████████████████████████ >

Great! I will send her a note right away.

On a related note - I am going to situate this “conversation” between you and Dana, for the quotations, as 21 July 2022, since that is when you two did actually meet. Sound good?

Yes, that’s a good idea, thanks so much.

Lauren Wetmore <████████████████████████████████ >

No problemo!

Sorry, needed to make a slight change to make it line up with the footnote. New bit in pink.

As the gallery’s sole staff member, Carlesimo is compensated for 30 hours of work per week to manage administrative, curatorial, financial, educational, promotional, technical, and maintenance tasks. Referring to a period when FCG was changing locations and the gallery was occupying two sites for several month, Carlesimo bluntly acknowledged that to accomplish all of this, she worked significantly more than 30 hours a week: “If I factor in all the hours I work, I am making way below minimum wage.” This juxtaposition of an overextended staff with a historical legacy recognizing artistic labour sparked my idea for The Employee.

This is actually less wordy, so better.
Thanks so much for the amendments.

Ok, great!

One more FYI - I’m removing the images and credits from the word doc version of your essay so that she can focus first on the text.

Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com>

That makes sense.
