dear Micah,
I hope you have been well.
I am writing to follow up about The Employee publication, which is still in progress almost 3 years later!
I am currently in the process of archiving outcomes of The Employee project. I am writing to ask your permission to reproduce the emails we exchanged about the project, which I hope to include in the project documentation. This material will be published online.
The project as a whole will take the form of an online archive of the complete email correspondence generated by the work, along with a printed volume of critical essays.
The work became about making overwork and burnout within the arts visible. These issues are not clearly articulated in single events, but accumulate over small increments.
I want to publish an archive of the email correspondence generated by the project as completely as possible as a way to show the quantity of work involved in the project, and also the intersection of work with personal life, which was more prevalent than ever during the pandemic.
Our conversation comprises a tiny fragment of this mountain of correspondence.
I have attached the exact documents I wish to reproduce to this email. I do not intend to publish anything other than what is included below. Please read these over and let me know if you would consent to allow me to use these documents. I did redact a couple of lines from one email, since you were writing to me in confidence about the disappointments of colleagues not responding, and I don't want to put you or them in an awkward position. If you want to know the specific content I removed, let me know and I can share the original message with out. Also, if you do not consent, or want anything else removed, please let me know as well. I want to respect your wishes. I would greatly appreciate it if I could hear back from you by next week, and will of course keep in touch to let you know when the project is published (hopefully by early spring at the latest!).
warm wishes,
Joshua Schwebel
