dear █████████,
I hope that you have had a good summer, and that your return to the academic year is going well. I am writing to follow up about my invitation for a text for The Employee. I recently was awarded funding for the publication, and as a result, we now need to be consequent about the timeline, since it involves more people's schedules than just my own. I am writing to confirm your participation.

From our previous communication, I understood that the earliest you could imagine submitting a draft would be by mid-December. Is this still possible? It is really the latest we can push our timeline.

Since I didn't hear back from you since my email in August, I am uncertain as to your commitment. Our ongoing working relationship is very important to me, and I want to make sure that it is maintained with care and respect. I feel uncomfortable with your email silence, and interpret it as both your over-capacity / burnout, and a potential lack of enthusiasm for the invitation. I don't want to demand too much from you, and if my request feels impossible, just let me know. I would prefer to respect your limits than to overstep.

with care,
Josh
