Hi Josh,

Happy new-ish year to you too! Responding in spectacularly late fashion, as per usual. My apologies. I’ll glad you received the book, I hope you enjoy it.

I have been thinking on your question re. editors for The Employee, and I just wanted to clarify – do you mean an editor in the managerial sense, or someone who could do some general copy editing/organizing? And if the former, were you hoping to bring someone on in a freelance capacity, or as a project partner?

Best,

Kate

hi Kate,
no worries, I am as slow as possible too, so I get it.
So the situation at this point is that I had someone on board who I had planned to lean on for editorial advice on content, since I have a massive amount of archival material (all the content of 11 grant applications) and wanted advice for organizing / editing decisions. However, they have  dropped out of the project. In the meantime, as the project has stretched well beyond its one year prospective duration (pandemic lag), I have run out of money, and need to now find funding for printing / graphic design / editorial work and copyediting, etc. Depending on the outcome of upcoming grant applications I can maybe pinch a bit here and there to pull it together, but if there are other ways of finding separate funding, that would be better. (I have asked FCG if they might co-publish and apply for funding for this, and I am waiting to hear back on this from the board).
I have commissioned three texts that I have paid for out of this budget, however again, these would also benefit from an outside editor. Texts are by Marina Vishmidt (UK), Mitchell Cumming (Australia), and Mariane Bourcheix-Laporte (Canada).
So I am looking for a project partner to edit, and in which case to share any funding brought in for the publication.
Would you perhaps be interested or know someone who might be?
best,
Josh

Hello Josh,

I see, thanks for clarifying! The name that came immediately to mind is Ruth Skinner, who is based in London, Ontario and fishing up her doctorate on artists' and experimental publishing at Western. She also works as an editor and publisher, and FCG is close to her heart! She attended the talk that you and Teresa and Zoe did with us last year and I know she is enthusiastic about the Employee project. And also, she is also one of my favourite people. :)

Here is her website, for your reference: http://ruthskinner.com
And the website for her artist’s book imprint, Edna Press: http://ednapress.com

If you are interested in contacting her, her email address is . I asked if I could put the two of you in touch and she said she would be happy to talk through what you’re envisioning, timelines, etc., so please feel free to reach out. I would be happy to loop you both together with an introduction as well, if you prefer.

Best,

Kate

dear Kate,
thanks for the suggestion. I think that Ruth was on the board of FCG, I am not sure if she still is.
I will reach out to her and see, I think it could be worthwhile for sure.
I really appreciate all of your ongoing support!!
take care, and until next time,
Josh
